Last Night DIY Parade 2011: Occupy The New Year!
Everyone who participates makes it happen.
The demonstration was modeled on Occupy Oakland’s successful port shut down and general strike on November 2nd.
At about 7 a.m., approximately 100 police from across Santa Cruz County outfitted in riot gear raided the Occupy Santa Cruz encampment in San Lorenzo Park.
Sheriff’s officers conducted a predawn raid to dismantle the geodesic dome and other Occupy Santa Cruz structures on the steps of the county courthouse.
This space has been occupied to meet urgent, concrete needs that can’t wait for election time to be met: food, shelter, bathrooms, safety from abuse, and many more.
Santa Cruz Police arrested a demonstrator on Water Street, while other activists were beginning the occupation of a vacant bank at 75 River Street.
Over a hundred activists in Santa Cruz demonstrated in front of a Chase bank, before marching to and occupying a vacant bank building at 75 River Street.
November 26th marked the 57th day of Occupy Los Angeles, which is the largest standing Occupy encampment in the nation.
Over a thousand people wound their way through Oakland, including around Lake Merritt, before stopping to set up a new occupation in the park and empty lot.
